Position Description
 
This individual will underwrite Disability Income Insurance business designed specifically for impaired risks, people with pre-existing medical condition or applicants who have previously been declined in the standard market. You will support the daily operations of the Company by performing initial analysis of applicant files submitted for underwriting and by providing final underwriting (case approval with exclusions, limitations etc.)
 
This position will be based in the Main office located in Miami, Florida and part of an international group headquartered in Paris operating in the insurance and reinsurance field.
 
The ideal candidate will be responsible for:
 
  • Underwrite individual Disability cases.
  • Maintain Underwriting manual up to date.
  • You will support the daily operations of the Company by performing initial analysis of applicant files submitted for underwriting and by providing final underwriting (case approval with exclusions, limitations etc.).
  • Read APS and doctor’s reports, read medical exams and script check results.
  • Reviewing, analyzing, accepting, and declining risks to ensure profitability.
  • Evaluates applications, medical requirements and supporting documentation for applicants to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Approve or decline the application in a timely manner within the established criteria, while utilizing clinical judgment.
  • Ensure accuracy of data entry of requirements.
 
Experience/ Skills Required
 
  • Qualified candidates MUST have 5 years underwriting experience of either INDIVIDUAL Life Insurance or INDIVIDUAL Disability Insurance (all of our cases are individually underwritten) - Ideal candidate would have had some exposure to rated life applications / impaired life cases.
  • Possess the knowledge and ability to assess medical and financial risk and be able to apply preferred underwriting guidelines in evaluating disability risks.
  • Must also be able to understand underwriting manuals, APS, medications, products, and the brokerage marketplace.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work independently as well as on a team.
  • Strong time management skills.
